In "Predator: Badlands," directed by Dan Trachtenberg, the challenge was to evolve the Weyland technology from the original Alien film while maintaining a cohesive connection to that cinematic universe. For this task, I collaborated with Production Designer James Clyne to craft a new vivisection room that respects and enhances the established aesthetic.
The design features a modular front entrance that echoes the silhouette of the original Alien film, yet introduces a more complex vestibule area to add depth. The repeating piping that wraps around the door frame seamlessly integrates into the walls, visually anchoring the entrance within the space.
A continuous, round screen bisects the wall, creating a channel that allows the operating table to move. This design element offers the cinematographer a variety of compositional options.
At the center of the room, a substantial platform accommodates larger alien creatures, equipped with a sophisticated robotic arm system. This system is concealed within a well above the platform, adding to the room's futuristic and immersive feel.
