Designing key props for a film presents unique challenges, as these items often interact closely with actors and are frequently featured prominently on camera. Consequently, the tolerance for imperfections is much lower compared to sets and vehicles.
Working with the talented Production Designer Kevin Ishioka made this challenge much more manageable. Kevin, a former top set designer, had already created a beautiful sketch of the rifle when he briefed me. My role was to translate this design into a 3D model, refining the material and tone to ensure it was ready for fabrication.
The lead actor, Adam Driver, who has a background as a marine, was also involved in the design process. Initially, the stock of the gun was smaller, but based on Adam’s expertise in weapon design, we enlarged it to better suit practical use.
